Adam Kadyrov Awarded Chechen “Defender” Medal
On August 25, Ramzan Kadyrov, the Head of Chechnya, announced that his son Adam Kadyrov had been awarded the "Defender of the Chechen Republic" medal during the closing ceremony of the XII Open Championship in Tactical Shooting Among Law Enforcement Units. Kadyrov said that the award was presented "for high professionalism demonstrated in the performance of official duty" and was handed to Adam by Aslan Iraskhanov, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Chechen Republic. Adam Kadyrov, who serves as the Secretary of the Republic’s Security Council, was invited to the award ceremony but did not take part in the competition itself. He addressed the fighters and presented the winners with cups, letters of thanks, and medals.
Notably, Adam Kadyrov, the 17-year-old son of the Chechen leader, has received numerous awards, many of which are linked to a controversial incident in October 2023. Following a video showing Adam assaulting Nikita Zhuravel, a detainee accused of burning a Quran, Adam was publicly praised by his father and awarded the Hero of Chechnya medal, the republic's highest honor. This act, which was widely condemned, was defended by Ramzan Kadyrov as an expression of "adult ideals of honour, dignity, and the defence of his religion." In the months that followed, Adam received additional awards from various Russian regions, including Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Tatarstan, for his "services" to these republics and for his contributions to Islam. He was also honored with the "For Battle Honours" medal by the Russian National Guard, despite his limited involvement in combat.
