Aliyev Meets Ivanishvili
On April 7, Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream, hosted Ilham Aliyev, the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijani delegation at the business center.
According to the press service of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Ivanishvili thanked Aliyev for his "fruitful visit" to Georgia and noted that friendly relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan are at their best, benefiting both countries.
Ivanishvili emphasized "the importance of deep and comprehensive economic relations between the two countries and the potential of maximizing the use of the transit corridor." He added that “close partnership overall serves the national interests of both Georgia and Azerbaijan equally.”
Ivanishvili thanked Aliyev for supporting the calm and stable situation in the South Caucasus region and noted that, in an environment full of security challenges, it is vital for the two countries' political leaders to make maximum efforts to maintain peace and economic development.
The meeting focused on the close partnership between the two countries in the energy sector, as well as transport and energy projects that Georgia and Azerbaijan are implementing together. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which plays a key role in ensuring regional connections, was mentioned. Ivanishvili noted that Georgia remains open to Azerbaijani investments, which have grown significantly in recent years," according to the press release.
According to the press release, Ilham Aliyev “expressed gratitude to Bidzina Ivanishvili for the warm hospitality.”
The president of Azerbaijan noted that Georgia is one of the most attractive, stable, and interesting places for investments. He also emphasized the importance of bilateral projects and Georgia's active involvement in exporting Azerbaijani natural resources. Aliyev confirmed his commitment to continuing to work together to maintain peace and stability in the region. Aliyev's visit to Georgia has ended," the statement said.
The party's press service reported that the meeting was attended by Georgia's Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze; the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili; the Head of the Government Administration, Levan Zhorzholiani; and Georgia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataridze.
