
Armenia Detains Soldier Recruited by Azerbaijan

The General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia reported that the contract soldier was recruited by an employee of foreign special services and transferred state secret information for EUR 223. The court's decision detained the serviceman accused of treason.
"The contract soldier with the military rank of senior sergeant got acquainted with the employee of the foreign special services through 'Odnoklassniki' and in the period between January and June 2022, he handed the information constituting a state secret to the employee of the Azerbaijani special services through WhatsApp," the report added.
"In particular, a photo revealing the exact coordinates of the location of the base, a handwritten scheme regarding the distance between the positions of the combat bases, for which, as a reward, 24 thousand and 21 thousand 250 drams [EUR 50), respectively. In addition, he collected and handed over information constituting a state secret, the 'Communication Organization Scheme' containing information on the names of combat positions in the protection area of his military service unit, the routes of wire communication, the location of the battalion command observation post, the distances between positions and their equipment, in return for which he received 48 thousand drams [EUR 115] as remuneration," the message said.
