Armenia, EU Reaffirm Commitment to Visa Liberalization and Internal Affairs Cooperation
Armenia’s Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan met with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos to discuss ongoing reforms, EU-Armenia cooperation, and the progress of the visa liberalization process, the ministry reported.
Minister Sargsyan, who serves as Armenia’s chief negotiator for visa liberalization, commended the EU’s expanding cooperation with Armenia, highlighting the recent missions to Armenia as instrumental in advancing the process. She presented details on the introduction of the biometric system, strengthened border control measures, and government initiatives for the reintegration of displaced persons and improved migration policy.
Commissioner Kos praised Armenia’s reform efforts and reiterated the EU’s strong support, noting that over €200 million in assistance will fund multiple areas of cooperation, including visa liberalization. She emphasized that the EU-Armenia Visa Liberalization Action Plan is now in its final stages.
Armenian Minister Sargsyan also thanked the EU for the AEGIS program, a €4.5 million initiative supporting the modernization of Armenia’s Rescue Service and Police.
The two sides reviewed broader reform efforts under Armenia’s Resilience and Development Plan, as well as other areas of bilateral cooperation. Both reaffirmed their commitment to working closely toward completing the visa liberalization process and further deepening ties.
