Armenia Takes Full Control of Border Checkpoints, Ends Russian Oversight
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that starting March 1, 2025, all border control operations for individuals entering and leaving Armenia will be conducted exclusively by the Armenian Border Guard Troops.
Pashinyan highlighted that since February 28, the Margara border crossing point on the Armenian-Turkish border has been solely operated by Armenian border guards.
“The transfer of the Margara border crossing point's control to the Armenian Border Guard Troops means that, from March 1, 2025, border control at all entry and exit points of Armenia will be exclusively carried out by the Armenian Border Guard Troops,” Pashinyan stated.
He noted that the Margara crossing point remains non-operational due to the ongoing closure of the Armenia-Turkey border but was fully renovated in 2022 under an Armenian government decision.
Pashinyan expressed gratitude to the Russian Border Guard Troops, who had previously conducted operations at the Margara checkpoint, for their service along Armenia’s borders.
