Armenian Officials Hold Talks with SCO Secretary-General on Cooperation
Meeting with Mirzoyan
On June 7, during an official visit to Armenia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, met with Zhang Ming, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Following a tête-à-tête session, discussions continued in an expanded format.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the significance of the SCO Secretary-General's first visit to Armenia, anticipating that the discussions would enhance opportunities for cooperation between the two.
Minister Mirzoyan highlighted Armenia's commitment to the principles underpinning SCO activities, emphasizing sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and the non-use of force or threat of force. He underscored Armenia's vision for peace, security, and economic development in the region, which aligns with the SCO's core principles.
The discussions encompassed economic and transport communications, with Minister Mirzoyan emphasizing the potential of Armenia's "Crossroads of Peace" initiative within the SCO's trade-economic cooperation and transport connectivity agenda.
Regarding the security environment in the South Caucasus, Minister Mirzoyan briefed the Secretary-General on the latest developments in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, including Armenia's efforts towards normalization and the vision for a peace treaty.
Meeting with Pashinyan
Separately, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Zhang Ming's delegation and expressed Armenia's interest in deepening cooperation with the SCO. He highlighted Armenia's regional cooperation initiatives, including the "Crossroads of Peace" project.
Zhang Ming reiterated the SCO Secretariat's interest in strengthening mutually beneficial relations with Armenia. The discussions between the Prime Minister and the SCO Secretary-General focused on the SCO's activities and the potential for further cooperation.
