Armenian Opposition MP: Azerbaijan Avoids Term ‘Corridor’ in Discussions About Nakhichevan Route through Armenia
Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan responded to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent statements regarding the road to Nakhichevan through Armenia’s Syunik Province. He emphasized that the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey are avoiding the term “corridor” and are using another definition instead.
“The Zangezur corridor" issue seems to have dropped off the agenda; however, the Azeris are talking about their perception of the route instead of using tough rhetoric which amounts to the corridor definition,” Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition “With Honour” faction, posted on Facebook.
“It can't be ruled out that this step has been agreed with the Armenian authorities to avoid tensions in Armenia and smoothly open a corridor given the repeated lies of the incumbent leaders,” the MP stated. He also suggested that Azerbaijan could be planning to resolve the issue by force in case of a fertile ground.
“The issue indeed holds significant importance in the Turkish-Azerbaijani agenda, a fact that is openly acknowledged at the official level,” he concluded.
