On July 18, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responded to a media inquiry regarding the recent escalation in southern Syria, which involved the intervention of the Israeli army after Syrian armed forces attempted to regain control of the region. In its statement, the ministry emphasized that it was closely monitoring the situation. It reiterated Azerbaijan’s support for "the territorial integrity and sovereignty, indivisibility and political unity of Syria," and underlined that establishing peace and stability in the country remained a top priority.

Notably, intense fighting had erupted on July 13 between Druze militias and Sunni Bedouin tribes in Suwayda province, leading to over 500 deaths, including civilians and medical personnel. The Syrian transitional government deployed forces to restore order, but clashes resumed after a brief ceasefire. Israel, citing concerns for the Druze community, then launched airstrikes on Syrian military positions in Damascus, including the Ministry of Defense and areas near the presidential palace. These strikes resulted in at least three deaths and 34 injuries, drawing condemnation from Syria and raising tensions with the United States, which had brokered the earlier truce.
