Azerbaijan Welcomes India’s New Ambassador, Emphasizes Political, Energy, And Educational Cooperation
On April 1, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, received Abhay Kumar, the newly appointed Ambassador of India to Baku, to discuss the current state of bilateral relations and prospects for their further development.
The sides emphasized that the mechanism of political consultations between the foreign ministries serves as an effective platform for addressing cooperation issues as well as areas of disagreement. They also underlined that longstanding historical ties form a solid foundation for relations, expressing satisfaction with the availability of direct flights and the expanding cooperation in tourism and education.
Touching upon energy cooperation, it was noted that India’s ONGC Videsh, which holds a stake in Azerbaijan’s Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) fields and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, represents an important pillar of bilateral economic relations.
During the meeting, the parties also expressed concern over ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Abhay Kumar conveyed his country’s appreciation for Azerbaijan’s support in facilitating the evacuation of Indian citizens from Iran, expressing "deep gratitude" for the assistance provided.
Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission, while Abhay Kumar emphasized his intention to further strengthen Azerbaijan–India relations across all areas during his tenure.
