Azerbaijani Minority Condemns Georgia’s Curriculum Proposal On Azerbaijani Language
On October 15, Aygul Isayeva, the Head of the organization Maarif, criticized the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth’s proposal to replace the subject "Azerbaijani Language and Literature" with "Language of Ethnic Minorities," describing the decision as "unacceptable and contradictory to the right of Azerbaijanis—citizens of Georgia—to education".
During her statement, Isayeva emphasized that the subject reflecting the native language and literature of Azerbaijanis should logically be titled "Azerbaijani Language and Literature," similar to how "Georgian Language and Literature" is listed in the national curriculum and online academic journal. A petition initiated by Isayeva opposing the proposed change has been launched on the change.org platform. If the necessary number of signatures is gathered, the petition will be submitted to Givi Mikanadze, the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia.
