Azerbaijani, Turkish and Pakistani Speakers Sign Islamabad Declaration
On October 13, the Third Trilateral Meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Türkiye began in Islamabad, bringing together Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis; Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly; and Numan Kurtulmus, the Speaker of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly. During the opening Executive Session, the parliamentary leaders underlined the importance of strong fraternal relations among their nations and legislative bodies, expressing confidence that this trilateral dialogue would deepen cooperation and advance shared objectives in inter-parliamentary relations.
In her address, Sahiba Gafarova stated that the Zangezur Corridor would become a key transportation artery across Eurasia, enhancing regional connectivity and cooperation. She emphasized that peace, security, and progress are inseparable, noting, "As we mark the fifth anniversary of the 44-day Patriotic War, Azerbaijan continues to reaffirm this through its actions". Gafarova recalled that Azerbaijan had restored its territorial integrity in 2020 and its sovereignty in 2023, thereby laying the groundwork for long-term peace.
Gafarova added that following the war, Azerbaijan initiated a peace process by proposing key principles and a draft peace agreement. She highlighted that in August 2025, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed a peace agreement in Washington, attended by the leaders of the United States, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. According to her, then-President Donald Trump witnessed the signing of a Joint Declaration by the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia, which emphasized the significance of opening regional transport routes.
The Azerbaijani Speaker underscored that one of the main results of the Washington meeting was progress on the Zangezur Corridor, a project proposed by President Ilham Aliyev. "With the implementation of the ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,’ the Zangezur Corridor will become a vital transportation artery across Eurasia, fostering cooperation and development in our region," Gafarova stated. She attributed these achievements to President Aliyev’s peace diplomacy and his continuous efforts for security, cooperation, and regional progress.
During the closing ceremony, Numan Kurtulmus emphasized that the trilateral meeting once again demonstrated the unity of Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye as "one nation, three states". He stated that such gatherings further strengthened trilateral relations, adding, "These contacts empower us to act as one nation on the international stage. Long live the Türkiye–Pakistan–Azerbaijan friendship!". At the conclusion of the meeting, the parliamentary speakers of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed the "Islamabad Declaration," as announced by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. The document was signed by Sahiba Gafarova, Numan Kurtulmus, and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as part of the trilateral session in Islamabad.
