The British Embassy in Georgia issued a statement on July 25 warning of the continued threat of Russian cyber interference. The embassy recalled a major cyberattack in October 2019, which the UK and its partners concluded was carried out by Russian military intelligence (GRU) as part of a long-term destabilization campaign intended to "undermine Georgia's sovereignty, sow discord and harm the daily lives of the Georgian people."

The statement noted that while the UK and Georgia had previously cooperated to enhance cyber resilience, the Georgian Dream party has since "moved away from Euro-Atlantic cooperation." The embassy stressed that despite this political shift, “the threat from Russia remains, including in cyberspace.”
