Georgia Arrests 1,417 in Nationwide Anti-Drug Operations
On August 22, Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Georgia's Deputy Interior Minister, announced that 1,417 people had been arrested in the country on drug-related charges over the past two months.
During the briefing, Darakhvelidze emphasized that a "significant number" of those detained were drug dealers and stressed that "the Ministry of Internal Affairs is continuing its uncompromising fight against the illegal circulation and spread of drugs."
He stated that 44 individuals, including Georgian citizens and foreigners, were arrested on serious drug charges in the latest nationwide police operation. According to Darakhvelidze, those detained faced charges for selling narcotics; preparing, attempting, or assisting in their sale; and importing, purchasing, or storing large quantities of drugs.
He added that police seized "a particularly large quantity of several types of narcotics."
