Iran And Russia Discuss South Caucasus Cooperation, Emphasize Regional Participation
On August 14, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian Araghchi received Igor Khovaev, the Special Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry for the Normalization of Azerbaijani–Armenian Relations. During the meeting, both sides discussed the latest developments in the South Caucasus and emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation between Iran and Russia.
Khovaev highlighted the importance of achieving a peaceful resolution with the participation of the countries in the region and stressed the role of the "3+3" format in resolving regional problems and ensuring security. Ali Akbar Velayati, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, also commented on Iran’s position, emphasizing that Iran would not tolerate any actions against its security and insisted that the fate of the region should be decided exclusively by regional countries. He criticized the Armenian Prime Minister for signing the joint statement with the presidents of Azerbaijan and the US, asserting that Iran would not allow the realization of the Zangazur corridor.
