Kazakh FM Visits Tbilisi to Discuss the Middle Corridor
On April 7, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev visited Tbilisi and met with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, and President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
According to the government administration, the meeting between the Georgian prime minister and the Kazakh foreign minister focused on the two countries' successful cooperation in several areas, providing a solid foundation for a strategic partnership in various fields.
The conversation touched upon the growth dynamics of trade and economic cooperation. It was noted that Kazakhstan is one of Georgia's most important and stable trade partners in Central Asia. They discussed the increase in investments from Kazakhstan in key sectors of the Georgian economy, such as logistics, energy, tourism, and agriculture.
The meeting also focused on the potential of the Middle Corridor and the importance of joint Georgian-Kazakh efforts to further develop the transit corridor and strengthen its role in regional connectivity," according to the press release.
Additionally, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' press service, the foreign ministers of Georgia and Kazakhstan discussed current issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation at the meeting. The conversation touched upon deepening relations between the countries and the importance of high-level visits.
"Special attention was paid to strengthening trade and economic ties between the two countries. The parties emphasized cooperation between Georgia and Kazakhstan in developing the "Middle Corridor."
At the end of the meeting, the foreign ministers signed a program of cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs of Georgia and the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2026–2027.
Regarding the meeting between Mikheil Kavelashvili and Yermek Kosherbayev, the press service reports that the two parties reviewed the friendly and partnership relations between Georgia and Kazakhstan, highlighting their successful cooperation in various fields. The conversation touched on issues related to raising relations to a strategic level.
As noted at the meeting, the strong partnership between the two countries is based on mutual respect, protection of national interests, and consideration of common regional interests.
Particular attention was paid to ongoing global political processes and active conflicts. Against the backdrop of these challenges, it was noted that maintaining stability and peace in the South Caucasus and Central Asia is gaining global significance. Additionally, the parties discussed the growing importance of the Middle Corridor and developing regional connectivity in a complex and rapidly changing geopolitical environment.
The president of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, thanked the minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yermek Kosherbayev, for his unwavering support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili; the Head of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Anton Obolashvili; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Levan Diasamidze; and representatives of the Presidential Administration.
