Pakistan and Armenia Initiate Talks on Diplomatic Relations
On August 29, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, stated on social media that he had a telephone conversation with Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. He noted, "We agreed to discuss the issue of establishing diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia".
Historically, Pakistan has not recognized Armenia as a sovereign state, a stance rooted in its strong support for Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Pakistan's position has been that recognition of Armenia would be contingent upon Armenia relinquishing claims to Nagorno-Karabakh and ceasing its presence in the region. Consequently, Pakistan has consistently backed Azerbaijan in its territorial disputes with Armenia.
