On August 28, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, reported that Russian strikes in Kyiv hit multiple foreign missions, including the Azerbaijani embassy. The embassy was damaged, but there were no staff injuries; however, an Azerbaijani citizen was killed in the attacks. Zelenskyy stated that the Russian Armed Forces had struck a foreign enterprise and several representative missions, including the Azerbaijani embassy. "There were strikes on a Turkish enterprise, the Azerbaijani embassy, the EU mission, the British Council, and residential areas," Zelenskyy said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan confirmed that the Azerbaijani embassy had been damaged during the attack, but no one was injured. "On August 28, around 3 a.m. (GMT+3), missile and drone attacks occurred in Ukraine's capital city of Kyiv. One of the missiles exploded near the building of Azerbaijan's embassy in Ukraine, causing damage to the building from the blast. Some windows were broken, and cracks appeared on the roof of the consular section," the statement read. The ministry emphasized that no embassy staff were harmed and that the embassy continued its operations.

Moreover, an Azerbaijani citizen was among those killed as a result of Russian missile strikes on Kyiv. The victim's body was recovered from under the rubble of a five-story building in the Ukrainian capital. It was determined that the deceased was 60-year-old Ramiz Zakiyev, originally from Baku.
