Turkey Confirms Full Completion Of "Zangezur Corridor" Within Four To Five Years
On August 21, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, stated that work on the Zangezur Corridor would be fully completed within four to five years. Uraloğlu emphasized that thanks to signed agreements on external lending, financing was not an obstacle. "The campaign is not waiting for financing, this is a $2.4 billion project. It will be built by a consortium of two powerful companies in Turkey. This is a 43-kilometer line. In four, maximum five years, we will fully commission this corridor," the minister stated.
Uraloğlu specified that the line within Turkey would stretch for 224 kilometers. According to him, 170 kilometers would run along the border with Nakhchivan, of which 150 kilometers were already completed and would be restored, while 20 kilometers would be newly constructed by Azerbaijan. He added that Azerbaijan would complete its part of the work simultaneously with Turkey, ensuring synchronization. The minister explained that the 43-kilometer Zangezur line, passing through Armenia’s Syunik region, would be the last section to start. He noted that once operational, the project would allow passengers to travel directly from Kars to Baku. Uraloğlu stressed that the corridor would provide the Turkic world with a shorter and uninterrupted route, complementing the existing Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line, which would eventually require additional corridors as it reached full capacity. Uraloğlu also underlined that detailed discussions on the Zangezur Corridor were ongoing, although specific details had not yet been finalized.
