Export and re-export of American cars from Georgia to Russia have been limited since August 1, the Revenue Service of the Georgian Ministry of Finance stated. The ban from August 1 applies to American cars. From September 26, it will affect imported vehicles from EU countries,  as stipulated by the 11th EU sanctions package.

Under the sanctions package approved on June 23, cars with an engine capacity of more than 1,900 cubic centimeters (1.9 liters) and all-electric and hybrid vehicles are banned from entering Russia.

Cars are the largest export share in Georgia's exports. For five months of 2023, about 3 thousand cars and buses worth $41 million were sent through Georgia to Russia. In annual terms, exports increased by 458%.
