On December 25, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, the Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, stated that the government has approved a draft law restricting the dissemination of certain foreign television and radio content in the country. During a government meeting, the draft law titled "On Amendments and Supplements to the Law on Audiovisual Media" was approved, introducing updated and more clearly defined prohibitions on the misuse of audiovisual programs.

Hayrapetyan emphasized that the initiative revises existing regulations to specify concrete cases in which restrictions will apply. He stated that the amendments prohibit the dissemination of content aimed at the violent overthrow of the constitutional order, incitement of war, promotion of violence and cruelty, or the pursuit of similar objectives.

According to the minister, a new provision was also introduced to ban the dissemination of foreign audiovisual content that interferes in Armenia’s domestic political life, noting that "the amendments also provide for the introduction of a new provision prohibiting the dissemination of content in foreign audiovisual programs that interferes in Armenia's domestic political life." Hayrapetyan emphasized that the draft law clarifies the legal grounds, criteria, and mechanisms for suspending and revoking network operator licenses, while requirements for the activities of audiovisual software distributors have been revised and edited.

He noted that amendments and additions were made to the section on fines, and a new article was added to regulate the procedure for suspending and revoking licenses. The minister stated that the amendments are aimed at restricting information that negatively affects citizens in order to prevent the spread of disinformation, violence, hate speech, and other harmful content.

He emphasized that the new legal mechanisms will create tools for information protection to prevent external influence on Armenia’s information space, ensuring control and oversight in line with national security requirements.
