Armenian authorities reported progress has been made in implementing reforms required under the EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan, with 41 of 72 measures in key areas already completed and work continuing on the remaining commitments.

The update was discussed during a meeting of the interagency task force responsible for coordinating implementation of the action plan. The group reviewed recommendations contained in the European Commission’s first progress report, focusing on public order and security, external relations, and fundamental rights. Authorities noted that the primary focus of current efforts is the development of the legislative and strategic framework required under the roadmap. 

Two EU assessment missions are scheduled to visit Armenia before the end of 2026. Progress in the first two areas of the action plan will be evaluated in October, while the remaining areas will be assessed in December.

The meeting also reviewed the government’s draft implementation plan and priorities for further work, with officials discussing next steps and coordination between state institutions as Armenia continues preparations for a future visa-free travel regime with the European Union.

The visa liberalization process has become one of the central pillars of Armenia’s growing partnership with the European Union. Brussels presented Yerevan with a Visa Liberalization Action Plan in late 2025, outlining reforms required in areas including border management, security, justice, fundamental rights and anti-discrimination protections. Progress on these benchmarks will help determine whether Armenia can eventually secure visa-free travel to the EU, a goal that has gained increasing political importance as Yerevan deepens strategic ties with the European Union.
