Azerbaijan and Iran Discuss Economic, Transport and Energy Cooperation

Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev was by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on September 29, during a visit by an Azerbaijani delegation.

Mustafayev conveyed greetings from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Pezeshkian, who in turn asked him to pass on his best wishes to the Azerbaijani president. Later the same day, Aliyev and Pezeshkian spoke by phone. Aliyev congratulated the Iranian president on his birthday, and the two leaders their recent meeting in Bishkek and the issues discussed there. The Azerbaijani presidency said the phone conversation also touched on the government delegation’s visit to Tehran and its discussions on the agenda of bilateral relations.

During the meeting with Mustafayev, the two sides highlighted their shared history and cultural ties and described the current state of relations as one of friendship and good neighbourliness. Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister and Iranian President stressed the current atmosphere of friendship and good neighbourliness between Baku and Tehran.

Mustafayev and Pezeshkian also reviewed ways to expand ties in trade, transport and energy, while emphasising the importance of continuing joint projects in these fields. As noted during the meeting, the successful implementation of joint initiatives could contribute not only to strengthening bilateral relations but also to broader regional development.

No new agreement was announced during the September 29 meetings. The discussions instead focused on bilateral priorities and the continuation of existing joint projects, while the simultaneous contact between Aliyev and Pezeshkian underscored the focus being given to the relationship at the highest level.
