| News, Politics, Azerbaijan

On October 24, Azerbaijan and the United Nations signed the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030, outlining the next phase of their partnership in advancing sustainable growth. During the signing event, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan, stated that the framework defined strategic priorities such as inclusive socio-economic development, human capital advancement, ecosystem protection, climate resilience, green growth, and ensuring a just transition toward sustainability. He emphasized that at the event marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, Azerbaijan was pleased to highlight "the dynamic and trust-based nature of Azerbaijan–UN relations, which continue to evolve through mutual commitment and partnership." Jabbarov added that this cooperation "opens new opportunities for sustainable progress and reinforces effective mechanisms that strengthen Azerbaijan’s economic development model."

Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, addressed the same event, stressing that Azerbaijan would continue to work with international partners to promote peace, dialogue, and sustainable development. He called for strengthening global partnerships, exploring new areas of cooperation, and reaffirming collective efforts to build "a more peaceful, just, and sustainable world for current and future generations." Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan’s active participation in the UN system, including its previous non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council, current membership in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and its upcoming role as host of COP29. He noted that these initiatives reflect Azerbaijan’s growing contribution to global efforts promoting inclusive and sustainable development. The minister also referred to the country’s broader agenda, which links urban sustainability with climate action, and mentioned upcoming international events such as the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13) and World Environment Day 2026, both to be held in Baku. He further noted that Azerbaijan had successfully completed the 2021–2025 Azerbaijan–UN Cooperation Framework on Sustainable Development, and the newly signed document for 2026–2030 represented the continuation of this collaboration.

Bayramov also emphasized that the agreements reached at the Washington Summit between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including a joint declaration, marked an important milestone in advancing the peace process in the South Caucasus. Following the restoration of its territorial integrity, Azerbaijan was implementing extensive reconstruction and rehabilitation programs in the liberated territories and taking significant steps to promote regional stability and cooperation. On October 25, Vladanka Andreeva, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, expressed her gratitude to the Government of Azerbaijan for its continued commitment to partnership. In a post on X, she wrote that marking UN Day 2025 in Baku was "truly special," celebrating both the 80th anniversary of the UN and the signing of the new cooperation framework. "Moments like this remind me why I believe so deeply in the power of working together—in dialogue, trust, and a shared purpose to create lasting change For People For Planet," Andreeva stated, adding her appreciation for the professionalism and teamwork of the UN staff in Azerbaijan and across its regional and global offices.
