On January 10, Yalchin Rafiyev, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Somalia. During the extraordinary meeting held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the purpose was to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia following the recognition of the Somaliland region of Somalia as an independent state and to discuss coordinated steps that could be taken in this regard.

Speaking at the meeting, Rafiyev stated that the Republic of Azerbaijan supported the sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. He emphasized that Azerbaijan, as an active member of the OIC Contact Group on Somalia, would continue to support the collective efforts of the international community, including OIC member states, on this issue. Rafiyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to the norms and principles of international law and stated that the international community should act responsibly and within the framework of international law to promote peace, stability, and security in various regions, including the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea basin. At the conclusion of the 22nd extraordinary meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers, a resolution was adopted by the member states expressing unequivocal and resolute support for Somalia and its territorial integrity.
