Erdoğan Highlights Zangezur Corridor as Key Peace Project
On August 25, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of Turkey, stated that the implementation of the Zangezur Corridor would enhance economic cooperation between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. In his address to the nation following a cabinet meeting, Erdoğan emphasized that "the Zangezur Corridor project is a peace project. Its implementation will give a new dimension to economic cooperation between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Armenia." The speech was broadcast by TRT Haber.
The president noted that the 224-kilometer Kars-Igdir railway, which forms the basis of the project, would be built as a double-track, electrified line. He added that the line was expected to carry 5.5 million passengers and 15 million tons of cargo annually. Erdoğan stressed that with the launch of the €2.4 billion project, the international trade route from China to the United Kingdom would become more efficient.
