| News, Economy, Azerbaijan

On July 9, Parviz Shahbazov, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, announced that the European Union had officially requested an additional 14 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the country.

During his remarks at an OPEC seminar, Shahbazov stated, "We are continuing our dialogue with the European Union because we see additional demand for Azerbaijani gas. At least 14 billion cubic meters have been requested from us," as reported by

He emphasized that Azerbaijan’s gas resources could significantly contribute to strengthening Europe’s energy security but stressed that realizing this potential would require substantial investment and firm long-term commitments from buyers.

According to figures cited by Shahbazov, Azerbaijani gas supplies currently cover 78% of Georgia’s gas consumption, over 50% of Bulgaria’s, 18% of Greece’s, around 16% of Italy’s, and 18.5% of Turkey’s demand.
