Georgia Economy Grows 6.9% in Second Quarter of 2026

Georgia’s economy by 6.9 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, with nominal gross domestic product reaching GEL 28.147 billion, according to preliminary figures from the National Statistics Office (Geostat).

Transportation and storage recorded the strongest increase among major economic sectors, with value added rising 19.8 percent from a year earlier. Arts, entertainment and recreation followed at 17.4 percent, while information and communication grew by 16.6 percent and health-related activity by 15 percent. Wholesale and retail trade increased by 8 percent, and manufacturing by 7.3 percent.

Not all sectors recorded gains. Construction contracted by 4.8 percent, while agriculture, forestry and fishing declined by 3.5 percent. Wholesale and retail trade remained the largest contributor to economic output, accounting for 14.9 percent of GDP. Real estate represented 9.1 percent, manufacturing 8.9 percent, and information and communication 7.6 percent. Public administration and defense, together with compulsory social security, accounted for 6.5 percent, with agriculture, forestry and fishing and education each making up 6.4 percent. Transportation and storage represented 6.3 percent.

Forecasts from major international financial institutions point to continued expansion for the full year. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development projects 6 percent growth in 2026, the International Monetary Fund forecasts 6.5 percent, and the World Bank and United Nations expect growth of 5.5 percent and 5.4 percent, respectively. Geostat is due to release revised second-quarter GDP figures by November 13.
