Georgian PM Talks Foreign Policy

| News, Politics, Georgia

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated during his annual report to Parliament: “We are ready to restore the strategic partnership with the United States of America, and moreover, we are ready to do this with a concrete roadmap that will reflect the benefits for both countries.”

According to him, significant steps have been taken in the direction of embassy relations, among which the appointment of a Georgian ambassador to the United States was particularly important. He believes these recent changes will ultimately contribute to a reset of relations.

“As for relations with the United States, which is a very important priority for us, as you know, we have made a public statement on this topic. We are ready to restore the strategic partnership with the United States, and moreover, we are ready to do this with a specific roadmap that will reflect the benefits for both countries. We are awaiting corresponding steps. Very important steps have been taken in the direction of embassy relations, among which the appointment of a Georgian ambassador to the United States was particularly important. We believe that recent changes will ultimately contribute to resetting relations, and we hope that the strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States will be restored,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.

“As for Georgia-EU relations, as you know, we face significant challenges here. There is an unfair approach from the European bureaucracy, but we naturally remain ready. We are prepared to take all steps to facilitate our country’s integration. We have a stated goal—to become a full-fledged member of the European Union by 2030. For this, the country will be fully prepared by 2030. If there is a fair and principled approach, then, of course, nothing can stand in the way of European integration. We are calm, in a waiting mode, pragmatically continuing to work in this direction. I hope that healthy and fair steps will be taken by the European bureaucracy as well,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.

In addition, Kobakhidze spoke about relations with China, noting that this is one of the most important priorities for the country and the government. “As for relations with China, it is one of the most important priorities for our country and government. Our task is to deepen political and trade-economic ties as much as possible. We signed a strategic partnership agreement with China the year before last and will do everything to ensure that this agreement is reflected in concrete results in the future. Active work on this will continue,” the Prime Minister stated.
