Georgian President Comments on the Country’s Relations with the EU
On December 15 the Georgian president Mikheil Kavelashvili said in a conversation with journalists that in order for there to be stability and peace in the country, the population must be informed about the challenges that are currently being faced in relation to the European Union. "Years ago, our informing of our society, our supporters also caused special excitement, as to why we were speaking so directly, what the issue was". "Today, the whole picture of the existing challenges in the form of globalization has become clear, which we analyzed in advance, and the main issue was that our society be prepared for the challenges, which have been revealed today in principle in relation to the European Union, its bureaucratic governance, a kind of confrontation with the United States, etc.". "In such a situation, it is even more important to be careful, to be even more informed, the citizens of Georgia as a whole". "In this situation, of course, we must judge the results, and it is precisely the fact that the majority of the Georgian population was informed about the challenges that are currently taking place in relation to the European Union, in a number of countries, in mutual relations, etc. between the American administration, the US and the European Union bureaucracy, etc. that has led to our stability and peace". "What does this give us? To observe the events more closely, this has always been our demand, and here "The idea that no one will support us if we ourselves do not defend the interests of our country has become more evident, this has been evident in the current situation," Kavelashvili said.
According to him, Georgia wants to be part of Europe and hopes that Europe will find the strength within itself to survive and be what it traditionally deserves. "We must be even more vigilant in order to emerge victorious from these events, I mean victory in the sense of not allowing radical violent actions, interventions by other countries, etc. in Georgia". "We must be focused on making our country more peaceful, stable and secure, and at the same time continue the path of economic, social, cultural development". "Georgian citizens must be ready for this". "The process, of course, will not be easy, but we are setting an example that our state should have such an approach, such an attitude that first of all it should protect its own national interests, its own economy, its own citizens, its own culture, etc. and in this context have equal, egalitarian relations with all countries, these will be our close neighbors, partners". "Our messages should be clear to everyone that we want peace, stability, economic development and are ready for dialogue with everyone". "As for the European Union, I constantly repeat this, despite the fact that they have a crisis, they have various challenges, there too "We hope that these healthy processes, we hope that they will find the development that Europe deserves. For which we have this expectation that we definitely want to be part of Europe". "We should have this hope that Europe will find the strength within itself to survive and be what it has traditionally been, for centuries," said Mikheil Kavelashvili.
