On March 6, a source in Slovenia’s Ministry of Environment, Climate, and Energy stated that Slovenia intends to expand energy cooperation with Azerbaijan and increase gas imports from the country.

The ministry noted that Slovenia and Azerbaijan have developed a strong and productive relationship, which has significantly grown over the past year. They expressed confidence that this cooperation would continue across various sectors, particularly in energy.

Slovenia and Azerbaijan are finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on energy cooperation between the Slovenian Ministry of Environment, Climate, and Energy and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy.

The ministry recalled that during Slovenian Minister Bojan Kumer’s visit to Baku in July 2024, discussions were held on the supply of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Slovenia. As a result, a memorandum of cooperation on natural gas supplies was signed between Slovenia’s Geoplin and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR, followed by a gas supply contract at the end of July 2024.

While the contract details remain confidential, the ministry confirmed that Azerbaijani gas deliveries to Slovenia are ongoing and expressed optimism about their continuation and potential increase.
