Ukrainian Citizen Detained at Russia-Georgia Border on Espionage Charges
At the Verkhny Lars checkpoint in North Ossetia on April 20, on the border with Georgia, the border department of the Federal Security Service of the republic reported the detention of a Ukrainian citizen suspected of espionage.
The 36-year-old individual was allegedly engaged in gathering and transmitting information regarding the whereabouts of personnel and military assets of the Russian Armed Forces involved in the zone of the 'special military operation' [Russia's war in Ukraine]. This information was reportedly shared via an Internet messenger to Ukrainian special services.
Following these allegations, authorities initiated a criminal case under the espionage article, which carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
