US Congress Calls for Action on Karabakh-Armenians and Armenian Prisoners in Azerbaijan
The US Congress hosted discussions as part of the International Religious Freedom Summit, where speakers highlighted concerns regarding the rights of Karabakh-Armenians, the plight of Armenian prisoners held by Azerbaijan, and the threats to Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh, Voice of America reports.
Speakers at the event urged the Trump administration to take action to protect Armenian heritage and ensure the release of Armenian detainees, citing Baku’s obligation to free them under international agreements.
Congressman Chris Smith criticized the Biden administration's policy on Karabakh-Armenians. He strongly condemned Türkiye for its denial of the Armenian Genocide. He also condemned Azerbaijan for committing ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Smith further called for stronger US-Armenia cooperation, emphasizing the need for greater partnership to support Armenia amid regional challenges.
